EMES SPIRIT WEEK!

February 19-23, 2018

Show your school, spirit by participating in these special days! REMEMBER all clothing choices, hairdos, hats, etc. must be examples of safe, respectful and responsible behavior!

“When in doubt don’t wear it out!”(Or to school!) :-)

Monday : Decade Day! Choose your favorite decade, like the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, etc.  Dress up as if you’re in that period of time!  Maybe you want to team up and dress as a group!

Tuesday : Sports Team/Jersey Day! Support your favorite team by “sporting” a jersey that represents them.  

Wednesday : Clone Day! Partner up with as many people as you like, dress like a CLONE of each other!  How well can you match up?

Thursday : Career Day!  What are your hopes and dreams for your future?  What do you want to be when you grow up?  Dress like that job!

Friday : Comfy Cozy Day! - It’s your day to be comfy cozy!  Wear what is comfortable for you!  Pajamas, sweats, jeans, what will you choose?

Board Games with our 1st Grade Buddies

Last Friday we met with our younger buddies and played with board games. We had so much fun!

New Reading Log and Math Homework Update

We are upping homework expectations slightly because the class has shown that they are ready for an appropriate increase in homework.

For reading, students will challenge themselves to read for 100 minutes (instead of the usual 80). I understand that life gets busy, so students may divide the 100 minutes in a way that makes sense to them (You can read all 100 minutes on Monday if you really want to!). Ellen Shedd shared a new reading log with me that I think will allow students to see reading in a new way. As always, homework is due on Friday.

For math, the 6th graders have been fraction/decimal division experts. On this week's homework, there is a mix of word problems and computation tasks. As we discussed last week, students are welcome to check in with me if they want some math challenge problems.
